Mrs. Utah 2010 ~ Jenny Bezzant

Jenny Bezzant became Mrs. Utah May 1, 2010. July 21-22 she will be running for Mrs. USA in Las Vegas. Her platform is Ascending in HOPE, giving voice to those who suffer in silence ~ Lyme Disease.

Lyme Disease is the leading immune disorder surpassing Aids in America and can Kill. She herself has Lyme Disease and getting the help and treatment she needs can be quite difficult, for any Lyme disease victim. Sites with more information include: www.lymemd.org, www.lyme.org, and as soon as Jenny's site is finished I will be including a link to it for you to go to as well.

I had a beautiful weekend shooting Jenny. She is not just beautiful outside but inside as well. Here is a sneak peak at her shots.

Jenny is such a trooper. She always explained the ordeal of Lyme Disease and attempting to get the help needed as feeling like you are drowning. We were able to capture that artistic view here:

This shot is one that she had pictured in her mind. Once that shows the peace and serenity one may feel once they finally get the treatment or help they need.

For me I love the serenity of a beach and chiffon in the wind.

Even stormy I still feel the calm...

Jenny is a mom of 7 beautiful children. She had 5 then was a surrogate mother to her brother & sister in laws twins. She was the first legal surrogate in Utah. Then she went on to adopt 2 more children. She and her husband are wonderful parents and partners. Even so a mom needs a break once in a while. I felt that this shot expressed our wonderful weekend together catching up and just enjoying a moment of peace. It also reminds me of the movie "Letters to Juliet" that she, Shannon, Megan, and I all watched together while she was here. If you have not seen it do!

Jenny is personable and hilarious. I love that she has a human side to her too. Often I have heard others explain how hard it is to reach that side of models and beautiful people. Jenny is just the opposite. She is one of the funnest persons you can know.

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love the beaches and water. It is my element. I am grateful that she understood my desire to take these next shots. It was fun, artistic, and beautiful!!! Just like her :) (She had a bathing suite on and was fully wrapped in chiffon.)

There are certain times in my life that I could live over and over again and my time here this particular weekend is one of those. I also had some amazing assistants. Georgia is a gorgeous state. The last weekend was a great experience with 9 other photographers and great people + locations to shoot. Thank you Sarah for setting this up for all of us and hosting us as well.

The great thing was that when one door closed it did not matter because we all pitched in as models teaching and learning from each other.

The bride was so cute - and was wanting us to include this beautiful butterfly in the pictures. It was fun and amazing to see this HUGE butterfly just staying there in her hand.

This was in the winery - I could not resist taking our client's picture in front of these amazing wings. It was fantastic!

Family time at Kayak Point Beach

Nothing makes me happier than family time on a beach. I love taking pictures of the moment and journaling the event for always. Here are a few pictures from our venture to Kayak Point beach.

Nathan is my husband and best friend. He rarely smiles for a camera so I get whatever shot I can and cherish them. Lately he has been growing his hair out. It is longer than it has ever been in his life and I love it!!! It actually makes him look younger.

He bought a remote boat to play with the kids and in the water. LOL well, Samuel would have nothing of it being in the water and would jump in after the boat afraid that it would be lost forever if we let it go. It was hilarious!

Miriam is much like her mom - Always enjoying the water.

Went to Canada with my husband and children. We made it a point to stop and visit S and her sweet girls. I will post more pictures from our trip later but wanted to share these first:

We have known each other since we were pregnant with her oldest and my 4th child. To finally get together after all these years was really neat! As I said more pictures of the trip will be shared later.

Mackenzie was perfect for dressing up! Simply loved it. Her hair is amazing to work with. I had fun playing and creating new looks for the wardrobe she was wearing. Pam Mathues brought in some of her amazing collections and we made a night of dressing Mackenzie and then shooting her. She was perfect!

LA is a male model who works through SPA studios. He came out for a weekend shoot and let us play one night. It was fun to be shooting at sunset with such a beautiful background. He was a great person too. So fun to meet him and his girlfriend.

Some fun work in the studio. I do my in studio work at SPA Studios. It has been a great place to learn and grow!

My neighbor was a dear and let me work with her some to get a feel for what and how I work. I will be doing her wedding photography in July. Very exciting. But the most important thing is to be comfortable with your photographer so this was a great opportunity to experience it up front.

Spencer Leamer is a fellow photographer that was kind enough to let us play with him in the studio. A great sport! Definitely a person I enjoy having around on a shoot.

Ang was a great sport who was game for anything. Very fun to work with!

Johnny (One of My little Brothers)married Samantha Workman (Who happens to be related distantly to my husband!) Aug. 18, 2009. I am in shock to see him married, but he seems to have found his match! They sure are cute!!!

This one is of Myself with my Hubby. Mary pointed and clicked - I did the processing. I have wanted something like this of us for a long time so Thank you Mary for doing it!

Mary and I have been friends since we were 13 years old. The friendship has been strong for the entire time. When we grew up and married it took me 7 years before our first child came to us. She had boys (2). Shortly after I found out I was pregnant with mine she found out she was pregnant with her 3rd. Our girls were born 3 days apart from each other. We called them heavenly twins. LOL. They are so opposite in every way - but still good friends all the same!

My favorite thing about taking pictures is the memories captured. Not only are they in our minds and hearts but they can be there to look at physically. This was a photoshoot that I flew out to do. It was a blast!!!

What I loved about this photo shoot was that we took 2 full days and went to multiple locations. They understood that to get variety and quantity of choices that it would take time and patience. They were willing to be creative and have fun! It was an awesome experience for all of us. We were able to capture their happiness, love, and personalities! It was a blast!

I just want to say that I feel blessed! I am married to the most amazing man. He was made for me and I pray he feels the same about me. We had to have been the best of friends before here. Anyway, He does not always get gifts or do romantic things - but he loves me like no other man ever could. I appreciate how hard he works and the home he has built for us. Our children are beautiful. I am grateful for the father he is to them! My valentines - is knowing that I am married to my best friend!

Christmas

Believe it or not I did not take pictures. The kids got fun gifts and enjoyed the day. Nathan decided to have his own tradition and bring the gifts down stairs last night before Santa could come. Frankly - it pissed me off. I hate that he gets to determine all the traditions and such and that I have no say.

The night before he put on some program. It was sweet, but I was not into it until I got over the fact that he brought the gifts down the night before while the kids were still awake. I did love how we all sang together and then played a game together. They all opened their PJ. package and seemed to like them. That was good.

Christmas came and the kids had fun opening the gifts and playing with them. Everyone in the family had a gift. I had 1 gift and that was from my sister in law. A su do ki game. Nothing from Nathan - not even a card. That hurt more than anything. Oh well. He knows he hurt my feelings and I know he never intended to. You would just think that after 13+ years marriage that he would KNOW that some things are special. He claims that his employees and secretaries helped him in the years when he was in business. I say it is just common courtesy to be thoughtful. It is not hard to write a letter. I don't ask for anything... just a sweet letter would suffice. Anyway, the holiday is over. I am trying to be a nice wife. Just focusing on cleaning and playing with the kids. :)

So that is how our days are going.

Nathan's Tshirts!!!

People have been waiting to see Nathan's Tshirts. I took his picture and hired a model to shoot in his shirts. So here they are. We would love any and all feedback positive or negative. Any comments are appreciated. Note that all the shirts are done on both long sleeve and short sleeve except for the Eagle under Sun on pebble. It is only done in the short sleeve version. They are all done on Beefy T Haines Tshirts so they are heavy duty and will last. They are also very soft.

These pictures are the stonewash blue shirt with the Killer Whale design. On the front pocket it reads Native Strength.

This next group is also the Killer Whale but done on a Navy Tshirt:

The next pictures are of the Frog on the Black shirt. The Frog reads Native Legacy in front:

This next one is also the frog but on a light green T:

This one is the Medeek on a Natural colored Tshirt. Natural is exactly that, natural... a bit off white. I love it personally. Both Medeek and Kermode are front images only with no writing:

This next one is the Kermode and is done on the Black Tshirt. The Kermode is called that because of the Kermode bear that is indigenous to Terrace where Nathan grew up. You will note it is the same design as medeek. That is because they are the same except for color. :)

This next one is our Abstract on a Sand colored Tshirt followed by the same design on a gray Tshirt.

The next ones are of the Eagle under Sun images on first the Pebble Tshirt (which only comes in short sleeve) and then in a Chocolate Tshirt (which does come in both long and short sleeve like all the other shirts.)

The shirts should be posted on http://www.WilkersonArt.com in the next week or so. The are available at the galleries listed that carries Nathan's art. If you are unable to get them we can recommend where they can be purchased. As mentioned before - we want all comments that you may have.

We went to the beach again, after my headache subsided some:

Samuel loves throwing rocks out into the water. Only problem is these are bigger rocks. I am just scared he will hurt someone. ACK!

Me with Edmond. Ok... yes I am gargantuous. I have never been so big or had such a hard time loosing as I have with this baby. Anyway - ugh. But the moments still need to be cherished. Hope I am not grossing anyone out.

As for Samuel, we are scheduling him to see a neurologist and cardiologist. I am hoping we will get some answers soon. With him I live on pins and needles in worry and concern. Anyone who has witnessed what happens to him would seriously freak. My whole life perspective has changed so much after dealing with it. Thanks for the well wishes and concern. I really don't have many answers yet. I do have dr.s willing to look into it and that is better than before. We just take each moment one at a time. He seems to be doing well though.

The art business is keeping us CRAZY busy - especially that the Tshirts have come out. I will post those pics shortly or later this evening. So I am not on here much.

As for Miriam, we are still doing wava.org or the K12 program which is public school but at home. It is going pretty good. I am very proud of my girl!!!

Jared is really mellowing out so much more and we are all grateful. He is so cute!!!

Nathanya is starting to talk like a big girl! WooHoo! She is finding her voice.

Samuel and 911

As things would go, last night was far from uneventful. I had gotten all the children in bed and was working on finding festivals for Nathan to attend and sell his art and Tshirts. I then heard Samuel crying (which he will often do to get out of his room.) The problem with this time was that it was not his normal cry or anger cry. Something spoke to me at the same time it spoke to Nathan and we both ran into his room. He was bunched over with vomit all over him. He had a weird cry/scream going on. Then I watched as his face went blue and he slunched over me. I then wiggled him around and pounded on his back until I could get him to focus on my face and then he would fall back going another shade of blue or gray.

After a moment I realized that this was something beyond both Nathan and I and that 911 was our solution. I yelled for Nathan to call them as I carried Samuel into my room trying to keep his attention on me. While holding him, getting his attention, I also changed into street clothing for our trip to the hospital. Meanwhile, trying to speak to the 911 operator just frustrated me! All I wanted was to keep my sons attention and the ambulance there to help me. I just passed the phone over to Nathan and told him to take over talking with them. He let them in as I focussed on Samuel.

Would you know it. I get down stairs and Samuel is smiling and jabbering. Full color back. Something did not feel right though and we ended up riding to the hospital.
(So while we were taking care of Samuel, Jared heard the commotion and wanted to see what it was all about. He came out and saw the lights from the ambulance, fire truck, and cop car. He said "Look Dad! It is Aliens!!!" Then he heard us talking of taking Samuel in to be evaluated. At that he said "Dad? Why are the Aliens taking my brother? Dad?!
So as my dear friend Dawn pointed out, Jared may truly believe Samuel was abducted by aliens when he grows up by this event in our lives! ROFL!!!)

We went to the hospital via ambulance. Samuel did fine until we got there at which point he started vomiting again. His color would turn grayish... but never blue like it was earlier. They did an xray and said all was ok and that they thought he aspirated on his vomit.

Today he is doing absolutely fine. I am in shock because it hit so suddenly and he has not had any problems since last night. Not sure what happened, but am grateful for the inspiration and the fact that he is doing well today. So Yessssssssssssssssssssssss a bit of drama.

I also learned a valuable lesson with this event. I realized that EVERYTHING else all around means absolutely Nothing. That friendships and family are nice... but when it really comes down to it my own family, being my husband and children - are EVERYTHING!!! That is all that matters, Truly. So everyone can hate me or the world could be crumbling, but in the end I want my children and family to know that what I do, who I am, my life is for THEM. (That does not mean I don't want friends and family... I just have a better perspective of my priorities and where everything fits into my life as well as where I fit in life.) It is just sad that it takes teaching me through my children.

It is amazing how much there is to learn in photography! I am loving it. I have started to take most my pics in RAW. It is so much nicer as far as editing goes... but then again, it can be a pain because you have to open them each and tweak them all before they are available. So it takes a bit more time.

Here are some resent ones I think turned out pretty good. Of coarse my family has to suffer with me being papparazi but I learned it from Grandma Joy! And after all... my middle name is Joy! ;):

Crawlking & Standing on Heads!

So what does that have to do with standing on heads?

Nothing - but helps bring me to the next topic which is the Olympics and my husbands desire to keep in touch with his youth. He was so hyped up about the Olympics that Saturday morning he was demonstrating his abilities in the gymnastics department for our children in our front room. He was doing handstands and headstands. Needless to say it landed us in the Emergency room. He does not have a broken neck - but he does have torn muscles and ligaments in his neck due to the whole event. (You should have heard the nurse laugh when he told her how he got hurt. She even asked "So you were doing it like in the Olympics?" Then another roar of laughter. ROFL)

Our manly man is doing good though - and surgery does not look prominent in our near future - Thank goodness!

(I am also sending out a special thanks to my visiting teacher and friend Dawn for coming and watching our kids while we were at the hospital. We love ya gal!)

Wishes do come true... That is they come true for some. This wish is for my mom, sisters, and brothers. It just so happens that it falls on my moms birthday month.

I tried to send a video and soundtrack - because I truly love the show and song. There were no Hidden agendas or messages to be had with the show - it just happened to be the last show we had seen and loved as a family. I did send the sound track to Mama Mia because it was a VERY good memory and feeling song that bring back beautiful memories of my mom. Unfortunately, my mom felt that I was trying to send some other message. I feel sad that she feels that way, but I can't control the paranoia that is felt by my family due to the problems my father caused. I am not a vengeful person at all.

Well - again my mother expressed that she does not ever want to see or hear from or about me, my children, or my husband. She has also said she is getting a protective order against me. (ummmmm WHAT? I tried to acknowledge her and say I love you on her birthday. How does that deserve a protective order?) Oh well. She did ask what I wanted and I simply said that all I want is for her to say that she loves me. That she can see that I am not the abuse, but that I was abused and that regardless she loves me. She says no. So here is where the granted wish comes in.

My promise to my family -

~ I promise that I will never try to ask you to love me again. I think it has finally sunk in that you don't love me and never will.
~ I promise not to ever try to contact you again in hopes that you will have changed your minds or hearts. Again, I understand that you have conditions - that being my carrying the burden of what happened to me all on my own without disclosing it to anyone thus allowing them to spread ugly rumors about me or think ugly things that have been said about me to hide the vile act of what happened. So destroy me to keep the pretty image that they would like. Afterall, protect the abuser at all costs.
Which is something I cannot do. The secret is out and even if I keep my mouth closed as I have always done... the fact that it is out will never bring back the past or make things right. Trying to get me to DENOUNCE the facts of the past will only be a lie that I cannot do.
So because of your conditions I comprehend that I am not to be a part of your lives.
~ I promise not to ever attempt to be a part of your lives. I understand clearly that I am not what you want in a DAUGHTER or SISTER. I completely understand that I am not of worth to any of you in any way.
~ I promise never to send gifts of any kind - regardless of my good intentions or not. My children and husband... I will ask the same of them.

I attempted to call everyone to officially say goodbye one last time. Heather said that it was a good idea that I never contacted any of you again. She said I have done enough damage. One day I hope you will all finally see that it is not I that have caused the damage - but I can't force you to open your eyes.

I do have some good memories. Lots of ugly ones, but there are good ones. Those are the ones I hope to carry with me. I hope that my family never treats anyone else in the family - or even a friend even close to a tenth of the way they treat me. I am hurt and heart broken, but this is their wish and I am tired of feeling run over all the time by their hatred of me. So your wish is granted. I am dissecting myself from the family for good. I have finally understood what you all have been trying to tell me for years - I am not good enough and never will be.

I have also come to understand something else that I want to make clear. My father hurt me deeply. I have since moved on with my life and broken away from the past. It feels good to move forward and away from that. However, people keep telling me that I have not dealt with the past. I have. I have done wonderfully too. The problem lies in that my family was not able to move forward... and because I am presently being shunned, and told that they wished I was dead or did not exist - the past is splashed all over me again. Well, this is the present. My family needs to deal with it if they choose to. I am over the past, it is the present that I now have to heal from. The abuse that is constantly thrust at me by them.

Jodi Picoult wrote a book "Nineteen Minutes" The very first page reads beautifully in that it is how I feel. I told Nathan that this is how I felt too. So I think that now I comprehend the desires of my family and am going to grant their wish that it is appropriate that I include this:

By the time you read this, I hope to be dead.
You can't undo something that's happened; you can't take back a word that's already been said out loud. You'll think about me and wish that you had been able to talk me out of this. You'll try to figure out what would have been the one right thing to say, to do. I guess I should tell you, Don't blame yourself; this isn't your fault, but that would be a lie. We both know that I didn't get here by myself.

You'll cry, at my funeral. You'll say it didn't have to be this way. You will act like everyone expects you to. But will you miss me?

More importantly - will I miss you?

Does either one of us really want to hear the answer to that question?

Although I am not dead nor intend to be, the wish of everyone has been made clear - and not in so many words... in THOSE words. I hate to disappoint but my children need me.

I will cry over your loss in my life - but doubt that the same will be done for me.

I in return ask that you don't try to attempt a showing at my funeral if and when I do die. That will not be fair to my family. Besides, I have expressed to all those that do care for me at all that if and when I do die that my children not be exposed to my family in any way or form. This is for their protection.

Honestly - I do know the answer to that question and it is overwhelmingly heartbreaking. I will miss all of you... but know and have been told I will not be missed.

So one last time I love you. I sacrificed myself and my sanity for all of your peace and lives for so long. To have thought that you would offer me your love in return at one point or another... or even a thank you is a hope and dream that I was foolish to think was possible.

For all the outsiders... don't feel that you need to respond. Honestly - it is a hard and sad life and all too often depressing, so if you did not even read this I am not hurt in the least. I am just making sure that there are no questions or he said she said. This is what I have said. I do not deny this post in any way.

My daughter has been begging me to get this movie so one day I read the back and said - sounds like one that I would like for my family. Well let me tell you - IT WAS! Nathan even sat down to watch it with us. Granted, I don't think it is for the younger crowd because it was not like a cartoon or necessarily at that level - but the message was for EVERYONE!

The story had humor yet was able to deliver a message that is very profound and needed for all at every age! I loved that it focussed on SELF WORTH since that is a message that our children and selves should know and realize the importance of. So for myself and our family we would say Rent or purchase it for sure!!! IT is worth your time watching.

Miriam is such a funny gal! She is very aware of the camera. Watch out guys... she will knock everyone away with those eyes! (Not to mention her dad will be knocking everyone away period! LOL)

Mimi is so full of life and love! And a big helper :) She really is the RAINBOW of our family.

Jared is a very inquisitive child in so many ways! He thinks so fast, but his brain works even faster. LOL Now to master all of that thought processes into a very + productive individual! :) He is becoming a huge helper too. Can't help but be proud of him. An so loving.

Nathanya is darling! I was taking her picture the other day and she kept telling me all her princess stories. Then she stopped and said - Mommy, when I am bigger and a mommy too, I will take my kids pictures just like you! Awe, talk about melting my heart.

Samuel officially says the word BLUE! Yahoo!!! He is so smart and a HUGE handful! He is as curious as George, as active as the Tasmanian Devil, as creative as the 3 farries on Sleeping Beauty, and as sweet as any boy has ever been!

Looks like Edmond is going to be as wild as his brothers. He is just rearing to get going with the others. He scoots in circles and will sometimes push forward. He rolls and just loves the attention of everyone in the family. Just a doll!

Thought I would share our time with friends on the 4th. Our hometeacher's family invited us over to share the 4th with a large group of 40+ people! It was amazingly fun. It helped lessen the pain of being away from friends and family. I took the opportunity to take some fun pictures... but then got involved in the food and games. So there are not as many as there would have been. ;)

As soon as we got there they gave the kids bubbles to play with. My kids were in HEAVEN! Jared was so excited, he kept asking everyone "Will you play with me?" And he would not put the bubbles down for the life of him! LOL
Nathanya was so quiet and followed everyone around. It was darling, but I wish she would open up a bit more.
After dinner during games they brought out cookies. Samuel kept running for the sharp drop off area. He would also run anywhere danger was. So in the end, hoping he would doze off, I put him in his stroller. The one thing that kept him from screaming bloody murder was the cookie! Sweets can be a blessing in disguise! However, realization hits fast too - and he was not a happy camper at being duped. :( When the adults started playing Botchi (I don't know how to spell it.) I tried to keep my children in a safe place. Well, Jared made it easy by getting a time out for blowing his bubbles at people who were eating after being told not to. Nathanya, being the sweet, innocent child that she it, just quietly watched from a distance.
The game began and Brother Davis - The host of the party - made sure that anyone that could would play. It was fun to see Nathan up and enjoying the festivities. I think we are a bit hermitish... Anyway, Brother Davis was the ref at the beginning - calling the winning and loosing teams.
Some of the parents recruited their children to help their teams win! It was darling!
I personally think Nathan was relieved not to be holding a baby :) I don't blame him though. It is nice to have a break once in a while. HEHEHE
Not too shabby of a tosser either! Of coarse I am biased! I also think he is a real good looker too. Hands off gals! HE is MINE :)
The blue team did put up a good fight!
The game seemed a bit stressful at moments - it was so close!
My theory is that height may have an impact on the results. Those Blue team members were just a bit closer to the ground already. ;)
It was almost too close! - In fact, I feel that praying for your favorite player is an unfair advantage. :)
But in the end... it was the red team that came on top! Everyone had fun - and all were great sportsmen and women!
My visiting teacher and friend - Dawn, had a fantastic plan for desert. They made home made ice cream and supplied cookies for the kids to decorate. Well, my children seemed to be the ones to take over that project. Boy did they have a blast doing it too! Miriam would make cookies and bring it to different people. It was so cute to watch. Dawn - you are the best :) My kids think so too!
There was not a shortage of games. Oh no... The Davis family has an assortment of real fun games. I got to sit and enjoy a couple of them myself, shortly after taking pictures and eating of coarse! Brother Davis taught us the art of Gambling. Hehehe We all took our game very seriously. :)
Afterwards we played a game called Pow Wow. It was really fun too. After games and cleaning it was time to go to the school near one of the malls here. We took blankets and there were fun festivities there too! Of coarse - we had games to play there as well, but here were tons of people and I mostly focused on making sure I did not loose a child. But I did take pictures when I could.
Edmond loves to be held... so Dad held him and he began to stretch. He LOVES stretching... so I got it on camera.
I had to take a picture of the clown. He was blowing up balloons... and was dressed so cool! They even had jugglers and hoola hoops. A band was playing music and there was face painting too. The food was all that cost. Pretty awesome!

Nathanya got a butterfly on her cheek, Jared got fireworks, Miriam a ball of stars, and I got them to sneak some flying jets on Samuels cheek. when he realized what it was he was very proud of it.

So when all was done, we settled down to watch fireworks. The results of which you have seen some. Here are some more for you to look at if you choose. Thanks for reading. Hope you enjoyed the pictures. I guarantee you the experience was even better than my post. :) A wonderful Independence Day!

If you want to take some awesome pics of fireworks, the settings I used were:

Aperature was set at f/8
Shutter Speed was set at 4"
ISO was set at 100
Focal was set to infinity (looks like and 8 on its side - I have the Nikon D80 and it is the focal ring put to the very end going clockwise.)

Very important to add that these need to be done with an Tripod! Because of the Shutter Speed... you will need to do it with one or it will be blurry.

THE LOVE OF JASPER
(Written and Submitted in a Contest March 24, 2005)

One day I awoke thinking..."It’d be nice to have a dog. The kind of dog that is not too big that it will topple over Cetty, our 2 year old, yet not so small that she’d smoosh it. We settled on finding a Cocker Spaniel, just like Lady in "Lady and the Tramp." If a Cocker Spaniel was good enough for Disney it must be good enough for our 6 children.

The children were tired and hungry after searching the city for the "perfect" dog. The dogs were either too old, blind, or not brown like "Lady." Then we found him. Jasper was about 2 years old. His shots were up to date, was potty trained, and loved children. The children fell in love and the price was right! Free (dog food not included.)

Jasper and Cetty became the best of friends being unseparateable. At night Jasper insisted on sleeping beside Cetty’s bed, and we would often find Cetty curled up beside Jasper, on the floor, her favorite blanket over the both of them. Tea parties included tea, with a dog treat for Jasper and cookies for Cetty. Walks were interesting too. Jasper would stand between anyone that approached Cetty giving a look that said "You are plenty close...Back off!

At times the connection that Cetty and Jasper shared would get frustrating. We continually explain to Cetty that a dog doesn’t eat at the table, finally buying a doggy table so Jasper could join us. Other times, we attempted to go on vacation, but Cetty would not be consoled until Jasper was with us. Jasper was family, that is all there is to it.

The day finally came when Jasper’s true love for Cetty was manefested to us. Just arriving at The Marriot Inn, our children informed us that the first item on their agenda was to go swimming. The 5 older children knew how to swim and there was an actual lifeguard on duty. I hurried them off so I could unpack. (The front desk clerk had given us permission to let Jasper room with us on the condition that he not enter the pool-room.) Back to unpacking, I did not realize that Cetty and Jasper had left too. In a panic my husband and I hollered for the children to come help us find Cetty. We searched everywhere to no avail. One last attempt led us back to the pool-room just in time to see Jasper successfully pulling Cetty to safety from the pool. Cetty was holding on frantically to Jasper apparently pushing him under the water most of the time, but he managed to get her to safety.

In his efforts to save our Cetty, Jasper had breathed in too much water and died within minutes of rescuing our girl. No one would have imagined that the love of these two, Cetty and Jasper, would result in the safety of one and the death of the other. Jasper our hero will forever be in our hearts!

I went Flower Crazy!!! (photos that is...)

These were all from around my house. My camera settings were:

ISO 200
SS (shutter speed) 800
AP (Apager) 5.6

The day was a bright day. I have learned that SS speed being at a higher # will make the picture darker. If the number was really low like 30 or even 100 the pictures would have been much BRIGHTER.

ISO helps the SS work more efficiently. So with the ISO setting at 200 it is like my shutter being at 1600 instead of the 800 it really is. (Just helps your camera out some. )

Now the lesson for me is to learn exactly what AP does. I am so not an expert... but this is what I can pass on to you for now. The settings I had for the flowers today would work GREAT in UTAH and the VERY sunny days you have. To help your pics look warmer.

The funny thing I find about Photography is that you may do a photo shoot and your favorite shoot is the one that was not part of the photo shoot! (in fact - my favorites are always the JUST LIFE shoots.) I did some of Ruby and Lincoln and I am so excited with the way they turned out - especially the one above. I will share more later :)

My favorite Indian Bread Recipe!!!

My mother in law has the BEST recipe for Fried bread. Here goes:

4 C flour
1 T sugar
2 T yeast
1 tsp salt
2 eggs
1 1/2-2 C milk
4 T Butter

Warm milk. Add yeast to soften, add eggs and butter. Mix all ingredients. Knead. Let rise 1 hour. Cover and leave in warm place. Shape into small ovals. Fry in skillet in 1/4 inch deep until golden brown (3-6 minutes). Top with jam, icing, sugar, or butter.

Ok... like I said it is fantastic, but I have a tenancy to change things up some so here is my version of the fry bread.

8 C Whole Wheat flour
1 1/4 C non bleached all purpose flour
2 T sugar
3 T yeast
1 tsp salt
4 eggs
4 C very warm milk
8 T Butter

Warm milk. Add yeast to soften, add eggs and butter. Mix all ingredients. Knead. Let rise 1 hour. Cover and leave in warm place. Shape into small ovals. Fry in skillet in 1/4 inch deep until golden brown (3-6 minutes).

_ You can Top with jam, icing, sugar, or butter.
_ Another way we LOVE these is with chili, lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, salsa, sour cream, onions, green peppers. mmmmmmmmmmmmm yummy!

Nathan's Chuck Wagon Diet Bars

Nathan came up with this recipe because he wanted a yummy fibrous cookie or bar. It is not all too bad... Sharon told me I needed to post it for you. So I have posted his version and my version of the recipe. Hope you enjoy!

2 1/2 c Rolled Oats
2 c Whole Wheat Flour
1 tsp Baking Soda
1 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 tsp Salt

1 c Raisins
1/2 c Cranraisins
1/2 c Walnuts
1/2 c Sliced Almonds
1/2 c Coconut

4 lrg Eggs
1 1/2 c Applesauce
2 TBS Milk
1 tsp Vanilla Extract

Mix the entire bunch in one gargantuan bowl. Grease the bottom of some pans. Fill about 1/2 inch thick and bake at 350 for 20 min. or until brown.

Cindy's variation =

I have a new love for Crows and Ravens!

No one can imagine the fear instilled in a mother living here on the coast when she looks up in the sky and notices at the tippy top of the trees something that appears to be snow - but is not. What it is is a Bald Eagle scoping the area for its next meal.

I have 2 of them that hunt in our area. Now you may be asking why that is a problem. Well - let me tell you. Bald Eagles can carry up to 40 lbs. They are predators. Oh, and most important, my children younger than Miriam are all less than 40 lbs.

Yup - you read right, I am fearful for my children. They are not allowed to play in the back yard alone thanks to these beautiful yet menacing creatures. I rush them inside as soon as I witness the hunting patterns or rotations of the 2 beasts living here.

I can't help but marvel at their beauty though.

Now just a few days ago we had an exceptionally nice day outside. I took the kids out and we were literally basking in the sun. Soaking it all up. Playing tag... running around, reading, playing, you get the picture. All the sudden I hear the wailing of an eagle (quite close.) Then I hear some cawing and squacking from some other birds. It alarmed me such that I looked up and noticed an eagle in a dive for my yard and 2 very LARGE crows or Ravens attacking the eagle. I hurriedly rushed my young ones inside... looking back to see the once swooping down eagle being chased off back into the sky.

I have since found a GREAT love for the Crows and Ravens that live in the trees all around. Their squack brings so much piece of mind to me... more than they ever have in the past. (Apparently, they chase of Owls too. WooHoo!)

Ok. I am opening this up for discussion. Not pointing fingers or anything - but do not mind reading anyones input. To start - the other day a dear friend asked if I was inactive in the LDS church. The excuse for asking was that "She felt that something was missing."

Well, I am bringing it all up for public discussion.

To answer: I guess you can say that I am inactive in the church.

What do I believe in then? - I still believe in God and Jesus and much of the gospel. You do not have to be active to believe in that.

My question is - What is missing?

The reason for my asking this is because I don't feel like anything is missing.

~I love God and my Savior with all my heart!
~I love the morals and principals I have learned and implemented in our home.
~I love my children and husband with all my heart.
~I feel that God knows my heart and that of my husband.
~I know that Families CAN be Eternal - but I believe that is not done by a ceremony, but is earned. That is left to God. I cannot fathom that Nathan and I will not be together forever... nor my children and their families, if we all earn and strive for that goal. (Nor do I feel that other families would be denied it if they are not a part of the LDS church.)
~I love my family to the degree that I teach them good and bad, right and wrong... and things that are healthy for them.
~I believe in service and giving of myself to help others! And exemplifying it to my children.
~I believe in Forgiveness.
~I believe in Life after Death.
~I believe in Good and Bad spirits.
~I believe that God speaks to people. In and out of the church.
~I believe in blessings!!! (I just don't believe that that is a privilege to the church and its members.)
~I do believe that the LDS church is a Christian based church - and as in all churches, it has some who live it 100% and some who act very unChrist like as well.
~I know that the people are not the church or its gospel. But they do make living in the church a + or - experience for sure.
~I don't believe that the world was created in 6000 years. I believe the world was around for millions or billions of years.
~I don't believe that Joseph Smith involving polygamy and polyandry was a calling from God.
~Now understand... that does not mean I don't believe Joseph Smith was not inspired to start the church, because I do believe he was. I just think he gave way to some humanly desires that I strongly disbelieve in.
~I have no bitter feelings toward the church! That is for sure. I love the church! It helped to save my life and gave me so much to grow and learn from. I still attend when I can or need too because I still have much to learn!

I just felt some may want to know what I believe and don't believe.

As for my family - My youngest 2 children were given a name and blessings by their dad at home. It was a very spiritual and special experience for our entire family.

When we need a blessing of healing we still call on Nathan to do so for myself and our children. If I need to I can ask my Bishop and have.

How do we celebrate holidays such as Easter and such? (someone asked me this as well.) Well, we spend the time together as a family. Often Nathan will read the story and explain the reason we celebrate certain holidays - to our children. Family time is the most important time in our home! You don't have to be LDS to appreciate holidays and why they are celebrated.

My husband - if anyone has questions about his testimony and his belief, they are welcome to ask him.

Our children - We teach them to be good people and hope that they will make the best choices for themselves in their lives. We will be supportive of their decisions and not judge them.

I am not opposed to any questions or thoughts. I appreciate it when people are honest and feel comfortable enough to ask me what is on their mind rather than assuming or going off of rumors. So now the door is opened to any and all who want to ask me. Ask away! ;)

Draper Delivery for mom and dad

Why did you name them that?

What is up with the name you chose? What is the meaning for that particular name and the child? For us we have a reason for most of their names and why it fits our child.

1. Miriam. There are multiple meanings that we found for her name. When it came down to it we had our own reason and definition for her name.
a. I loved the sound of the name. When I was a child I knew a girl with the name. She was so beautiful, sweet, and kind!
b. We had tried for years to have a baby! When we got pregnant with her I wanted her to have the PERFECT name. Looking at the name Miriam it felt right. However, I did not like most of the definitions out there for that name. So in the end I came up with my own. If you take Miriam apart MIR is the first 3 letters to Miracle - she was a miracle to us. It took 7 years to get her! Then you take the last 3 letters of her name IAM in the bible I Am is another name for God. We both felt that that was it!

Miriam is our Miracle from God. So for us, that is the definition of her name.

2. Jared - We knew if we had a boy we would name him after one of his 2 uncles that past away. When we were having twins we thought maybe it would be 2 boys... so we chose the names Jared and Samuel after Nathan's brother Jared (died in 1994) and my brother Samuel (died in 2000). Jared means One who Rules!

When Jared was born I told Nathan he could choose the name to give... Jared or Samuel. It was his first born son afterall. In my heart I knew it would be Jared, so I was not surprised a bit. Nathan's brother was a very easy going, funloving person! Nathan's choice to Name Jared that was very welcomed. A great person for our son to be named after.

3. Nathanya - Well, her daddy is Nathaniel. I wanted to have her name be similar, but did not like Nicole or Natalie or Natasha... so I played around with his name some until I came up with Nathanya. The funny thing is that when we settled on it, I then came across it in the Hebrew baby names. So it is a name that has been used. The feminine form of Nathaniel. Gift from God.

4. Samuel - Well, we explained why we named Jared Jared... needless to say, I still wanted to honor my brother who had passed on in 2000. He was a very kindhearted, loving person. So when I had Samuel, the name was already waiting for him :) Samuel means Asked of God

5. Edmond - The meaning of Edmond is Prosperous Provider. For a while I had been thinking of names like Edison, Edwin, Edward, Eddie. It would not leave me. Everyone was convinced I would have a little girl this time around, but I knew with all my heart that this was my little boy. I looked at the names over and over. When I came across Edmond it would not leave my mind! I loved it instantly. It also went well with the middle name Nathan had chosen.

Newer and easier way to do water marks!

Ever want to put a water mark on your pics that is consistent? Well - this is a tutorial on how to make it a brush. I like to start out by going to file and clicking on new. When I do that it brings a new window where I choose the dimensions 1000 x 1000. Now I have a completely new canvas to work on. Here is where you create and play. For me, I like to use different fonts (so if you need more fonts you can always go here: http://www.dafont.com/theme.php?cat=105&page=3 There are a variety to choose from :))

I will start with a first font - NPW I find the size, font, color I like. Then I go to layer and open a New layer. I then choose a different font for athaniel and ilkerson. I place them where I like. I then create yet another New layer. On this new layer I choose another font, size, and color for Wilkerson. Once everything is in place how I want it to look I go to File - Save As. I save the PDF file so I can work from there to tweak and create others from it.

I then go back to File - Save for web. Doing that you can save it as a Gif or Png. I like to save as png Once saving it as a png - close out the pdf, go in and open your png file in photoshop. Once you open it you can go to edit - define brush preset - enter a name for your new brush. Now you can click on your brushes and it is now saved for whenever you want to mark your photos.

I always mark my photos by layering. I get my picture open - then I open a new layer. I click on brush and choose my siggy. Then I choose a color for my brush. By opening in a new layer you can move it around, change opacity and everything. When I am satisfied then I simply go to Layers - Merge visible. It is supper simple now! Let me know if this works for you :)

The Host - Book Review

Ok... I read it and have to say that even though it has a completely different feel and whole new story away from Twilight - I really enjoyed it :)

The book was more sci fi than I have ever been, but it had some neat twists and thoughts. I could not put it down. If you are expecting the Twilight again it isn't, but if you are looking for a good read by a great author I say go for it.

I loved that it mixed Sci Fi with life... thoughts and emotions. It felt real which is something that Stephenie is great at doing and capturing! I have to say that I ended up having lots to think about after reading it. Dealing with life and my past, I know that my views are different than others. This helped me look at everything in a broader perspective. (Ok, maybe super broader considering the topic). I like books that make me think - almost like a double meaning or mult. perspective type of scenarios. Not a hard read and only one word that is a cuss word - (not in our home... but to some). I think it was more teenage friendly than Twilight... but that is me. Very well done. So out of 5 stars I give **** out of 5. Simply because It really is hard to top Twilight series, or even My Sister's Keeper... and such, but so worth the read still. :)

Memorial Weekend for us

I wish you could have seen these clover!!! They were amazing! I have never seen them so big in my life!

The kids and I in front of some water falls - they were beautiful!!!

We hit so many beaches that day but Ruby Beach was our favorite!

The water would splash and pool around the rock formations that were everywhere! This is Nathan looking with Samuel very carefully around the edge of the rock. It was beautiful and amazing!

Honestly - the trip was a business trip. We had a few hang ups we had to deal with while out there with paper issues. Those were a bit frustrating, but we were able to deal with it and move forward. So all in all it was a good business trip! I think that going out with 5 children and staying for 2 weeks is pretty rough on me, but the kids got to enjoy time with cousins and Grandparents. We had some pretty awesome park times and visits at Grandma and Grandpa's home!
Auntie Ruby and Uncle Lincoln treated the kids wonderfully! The kids cannot stop asking to see Spency, Gillan, and Raeden! The older boys were so sweet with our kids as well, helping to make life a bit easier on me too!

While out there I got to meet up with a friend that had a baby the same time as I had Samuel. The kids adored her too! We let the kids play in the park :)

One thing that I thought was so cool was that I had gotten Ruby to read the Twilight Series and she loved it as much as I do! WooHoo!

I found a key to my storage unit and was able to get in and raid my books. I brought home all 20 of my Anita Stansfield books! Even more awesome!!!

My highlight was bringing my camera and utilizing my polarizing lens and tripod.
Also changing the settings some and working with light. It was pretty cool! I had the opportunity to do family portraits for Ruby and Lincolns Family. Fun Fun!!!!

I have a long way to go in photographing - but it was very neat!

Unfortunately I was not able to meet up with Shaney and Ken, or the Gooches. I am sad about that... but hope that the next trip will give me the opportunity to do so. That is if we go to Utah ever again. LOL

I want to wish my Brother a great mission. He leaves July 16th for Georgia - USA English speaking. I am sure he will have a fantastic experience. He is a hard worker with a good heart.

Johnny is due to arrive back to Utah sometime in August. That will be a treat for the rest of the family - but for Matthew and Johnny it will be bittersweet. Since they both understand the reasons - they will not get to see each other for 4 years total because of when they leave and arrive. :(

My only regret is that Matthew and I never got to spend any time hiking or anything for that matter while I was out. I was so hoping he would call or something. It would have been nice to be a bit of a family before he left. I doubt he would consider coming and visiting either. Oh well. Asi es mi vida...

For the record - YES I chopped off my hair! WooHoo!

I just finished the book Relic by Douglas Preston Lincoln Child Relic makes one think that Predator has come to New York. The book has the feel of Predator with its monstrous creature preying on those in his vicinity, but with the big city feel in a huge museum there in New York City. It is a thriller that is hard to put down. You have horror, gore, intrigue, mystery, science... It does not slow its pace for anyone. The only caution aside from some of the horror/gore would be the language. I would not let my kids read it (until I edit it which I often do to my books. I read my books with a black pen in hand for language if I intend to keep the book. LOL) Other than that I would recommend it to those who like the suspense or scare factor. A very fun read. ***** 5 star or thumbs up in my opinion!

Family Exercising!

We had a beautiful day today! Nathan took us to a track and we ran and walked for hours! It was fabulous and I finally felt like I was doing something about my weight! Truly a beautiful day and what a better way to spend with your family than on health improvement!!! What a great husband I have!
Some would think I am silly, but with the rain during the winter and not knowing the area well enough I don't get out much. Then there is the issue of Eagles... That is a whole other story. So the kids and I are mostly confined to the house. Getting out is FANTASTIC!

My camera and photoshop CS3 extended!

So today I have been working with my camera... trying to get to know it better. I worked with settings and speeds + manual focusing! It was a blast. (Having great children to work with has helped too!) I also played with shooting in RAW! I am in heaven!

When trying to master the focus I also attempted to master catchlights. I shot the kids in front of a large open window in our front room. I was surprised what a few tweeks to settings brought out in my photos! (and photoshop tweeking too!)

This one was done in RAW and then Photoshop CS3 helped me to be able to do the shading around the edges. It was so fun! I have also since learned how to add my siggy to the brushes courtesy of my dear friend Amber A.!!! She is a pro!

Now my next endevour is to get a screen calibrator so that my colors on photoshop are the same as I see them on my screen. VERY important!!! See, I see a beautiful pic and many others or even when I print it... comes out yellow or green on the other end. It is all due to my screen calibration! UGH!

Longing for good weather!

I long for those days where we can just wander the beach without a coat on and not freeze. Where the sun shines in our faces and our hearts are warmed by it and being together... enjoying life!

The longing extends to the need and desire to be taking pictures - and journaling events that we get to experience. Being able to capture these moments forever for my children to cherish.

Taking the time to be a family and contemplate the world around us that God blessed us with. Creating memories that are a lifetime and not just a fleeting moment. Observing and capturing.

Attempting to find a new way to use the light (because it is actually out and not behind a cloud) such as creating semi silhouettes and getting the effects of rocks being thrown into the ocean.

In the end, coming back home and resting in the arms and presence of those we love. Dreaming of those moments shared - looking forward to the next events and memory makers together!

Funky Weather!!!

So we had a super sunny day, then full blown snow then a day that could not make its mind up so it would go from sunny, to lightening and thunder with major hail storm to sunny, to rainy, to hail again! It was out of control!!! This was right out our front door. It was just slowing down hear... then picked up again.

The hail was really crazy an covered everything like snow!

Miriam had fun getting into it!

Even the plants were confused with the weather! LOL

The Thirteenth Tale (book review) - May have spoilers

Ok... so I finally finished the book. The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. I have to say that it went VERY slow for me and the only reason I continued on was because a couple people said it was good and I had to know why. I also wanted to comprehend what the book was about.

For me it finally semi picked up around page 190. Then the last 3-4 chapters a bit more but never to a point I could say OH this is worth it. I know I have alot of personal issues due to my past - but one thing that bothered me was the incestuous issues throughout the book. I understand bondings - but when it runs into incestuousness I cannot stomach it. (She did a fantastic job of no swearing or even any inappropriate scenes - which I am more than grateful for!)

Then to make twins more than they are by bringing them into this sick bond made me sad... I find twins and multiples to be a beautiful thing. I think this book made it almost Ugly. Being a mother of mult.s (opposite sex) it really bothered me even deeper than I think it would have if I just read it as a story without personalizing it.

There is a dark and mysteriousness to the book (a bit on the Gothic side.) However, I find that the author is very long winded - making the book drag on FOREVER.

In the end - I do not recommend the book. I give it 4 thumbs down - but if anyone wants it email me and let me know. This will not be one I keep in my library.
