Who is allergic to cabbage?
(This picture was taken the next day when the swelling had gone down almost completely. I cry just thinking that yesterday could have been my very last day with my son. I thank God for letting us catch the problem before it harmed him any further.)
Well, I should say Red Cabbage. My son Jared had to go to the urgent care tonight due to RED cabbage. I made my salmon and cabbage but switched out the normal green Cabbage for the purple or red kind. He complained that it was hot. All the sudden his mouth swelled and half his face. He started gurgling and then he was speaking in just whispers.
I ran upstairs and forced a full 5 mls of Benydryl down him then ran him out to the car (he had no shoes... and I carried him.) They gave him an epi shot in the urgent room and he is sleeping with us tonight + he is now on a steroid for the entire week.
I could not believe how bad it was! (I was worried that it could be the fish but he has that fish 2x a month since he was little and the only thing I did different was the variety of cabbage so they feel strongly that the reaction was to the cabbage. Holy cow! I had no idea that cabbage could create such a bad reaction to a person.
Anyway, our scare for the night. I am glad it is mostly over. Hope we get sleep with him in our bed.

How scary! I'm glad he's okay. I hope you get some sleep, too. Good luck with that, and no more red cabbage. I'll have to keep that in mind.
Yikes! I am glad that he is okay. Allergic reactions are such a scary thing!
Those kind of reactions are scary! Has he eaten green cabbage? I think I remember reading earlier that he had. Who woulda thunk?
I am glad you are on! This will be fun.
P.S. Sorry you had to fall for our bogus blog we set up for Susie. She is the only one who is not bogging with us so one mischievous family member set one up for her to trick the rest of the family. Long hilarious story, but it is bogus. We wish she would upgrade her technology so that she can have fun with the rest of us.
ROFL! You gals crack me up! That is cool to know it is bogus though. LOL
I usually make the dish with Green cabbage but thought I would try it with some red cabbage I had just bought. Big mistake on my part!
At least now you know. That is really scary though. I never would have thought of that being an issue, but I guess people can have all sorts of different allergies to random things. I found out a couple years ago that I have a mild allergy to sesame seeds. Mild, fortunately, or I'm sure I would have found out sooner like in your situation. Hope he doesn't have any more problems with anything! :-)
